An elective during my graduate study granted me the opportunity to be on a team of student sound designers and work as A2 during show days for SCAD's Little Shop of Horrors production, mentored under Tony award winning sound designer Fitz Patton.
To the left is a rendering of speaker placements and their coverage directions. Fitz wanted to really "rock the house" with a loud and exciting show. This presented a challenge being in a theater not originally meant for audio reinforcement. The class collaborated for the speaker selection and placement with Prof. Patton, which resulted in a deeper understanding of where to place certain types of speakers in a stage setting.
The band was placed behind the stage and hidden behind a curtain, this was because the band pit was covered for more on-stage real estate. This presented a unique challenge in making sure precision was used when selecting microphones and their placements/miking technique.
This image is of speaker selections. When it came to specific brands and speaker models, Prof. Patton had a good idea of what he wanted to use. For an assignment, we were tasked with selecting speakers from a different brand form that he selected. The prior teachings helped guide my research into speakers and guide my selections.
